Sony has unveiled a new gaming system that could allow PlayStation gamers to sniff their way through games like these. Our last.
Unveiled at CES 2025, the Future Immersive Entertainment Concept (FIEC) features a giant, room-sized structure designed to push the boundaries of immersive gaming. The concept’s trailer shows a giant cube built from high-definition LED screens that allow gamers to jump right into their favorite games (sadly, it’s not something you’ll be setting up in your living room anytime soon).
In the trailer, players experience a post-apocalyptic world Our last offers a “completely new experience” with enhanced audio and sight-and-sight additions. The video explains: “One of the pillars of Sony’s creative entertainment vision is the idea of narrative everywhere, where Sony’s stories are transformed into new and exciting environments.” “This Future Immersive Entertainment Concept aims to explore these possibilities. This proof-of-concept project combines the latest location-based technologies, Sony Crystal LED panels, engaging audio, haptics, smell and atmosphere to fully immerse you in the story world.
And the infected world Our last It may seem like an odd choice to showcase what FIEC can do, with players clicking and smelling the game’s eerie post-apocalyptic world as they appear around them. “I think I speak for everyone when I say no one wants it,” one skeptical fan responded to the ad. “I can’t think of a single game that would improve my experience by sniffing,” a second X user added unimpressed.
I can’t think of a game that would enhance my experience by smelling it.

Although the use of scents in entertainment has been around since the 1960s, the FIEC builds on a PlayStation patent for scent-based games that was filed four years ago. Whether players will embrace this feature remains to be seen. Maybe they should have led with the pizza wave in the world of Cooking Mama to get players involved.
