I still remember the day I realized how many days he was worried.
I was campaigning with a friend who grew up with less stability than I was, and he accidentally mentioned he had enough food in the refrigerator. At that moment, I caught me surprised by which I am not proud of, but that’s exactly what my eyes opened all the little things I was never afraid.
It is easy to ignore the types of concern that never put it on our personal radar. We do not emphasize about them, because in our reality they have never been threats. But meeting people from different origins taught me that the lack of some worries often indicates the privilege we can even do not even know.
Below are ten troubles, which I have met with conversations, personal coaching sessions and my life experience. If you have never found that you are weighed with these thoughts, maybe it’s time to admit how lucky you are actually.
1) worry about your next meal
I had times when I felt “hungry” but was not usually after training or busy day. I was never really afraid to sleep without dinner.
For many, however, the question of where their next food will come from is an anxiety everyday source. If you have never had rational parts or wonder if you can afford groceries until your next salary is thankful.
Hunger is an invisible burden to people in every city of every city in the world, and yet it is often hidden from random.
2) Do you doubt you can afford medical care
Growing up, I was fortunate to have regular inspections, vaccinations and quick treatment for any sports injury. I used to think that healthcare was simply given a doctor, fix the question and move on.
I later met people who would rather be a headache than to see a doctor for weeks because they couldn’t save money. They just worried about pain. They worried about the bill and with cryptic influence, it could have rent on fees, food or transport.
Never need to be surprised. “I can actually pay for this doctor’s visit.” It is a great privilege.
3) Fearing the expulsion
I lost track of how many times I accidentally mentioned the “Home of Home” without thinking about the house of that word.
For people who have not been able to hire or collide with a sudden loss, the concept of “home” is uncertain. It can be removed under them at any time.
Sometimes even one missed payment may turn into a snowball into a huge mental stress.
If you have never had your mind at night, calculating how to stretch your budget to avoid eviction, you have avoided serious worry.
4) faces prejudice due to your appearance
Growing up, my biggest stress on the look was that my hair was scattered on a wet day. It wasn’t about the people who doubted me to commit a crime or make assumptions based on my race, clothing or body size.
Some mine friends have described that they follow in stores or pull aside in security checks. Others have felt unsafe who carry some outfits because strangers may respond.
If you have never been scared that your appearance can cause cycling or threats, it is a sign of freedom and security.
5) Your opinion has no freedom to voice
Within when I grew up, disagreement was perfectly acceptable, sometimes even encouraged if you could back up your point of view.
But in many households, communities, or even all over the countries, talking about your opinion can come with severe consequences. I have always realized that people can be punished, broken or worse for a simple difference.
If you were never worried about the consequences of raising your beliefs. Are they political, religious or personal, you are privileged to have millions of people?
6) feeling insecure in your own neighborhood
Rounding around the block, with a dog, Luna usually brings me peace. The idea that something dangerous could have never happened to the forefront of mind.
However, I have come to see how real it can be for many individuals. Some worries wandering bullets, accidental violence or permanent crime so much that they avoid getting out after dark.
If security concerns don’t keep you from taking out your front door or take a late night walk, it’s a privilege that should not be taken slightly.
7) Mental health sacrifice to keep a job
I once fought my sport with pressure on extreme, but I also had that I could have stood back, recycling and prioritizing my welfare. Not everyone is the option when it comes to work.
Imagine that you have to swallow anxiety or depression just to keep your check. Some people are trapped in toxic jobs or break multiple jobs without a security network if they decide to leave a healthier environment.
If you are never worried that the day of mental health can cost you your livelihood, you are already in a safer position.
8) be isolated without a support system
I grew up knowing that if I really needed help, I could call my parents or brother, and they would be there in heartbeat. Even the friends I have prepared through sports or thinking communities have become an extended support system.
But there are so many people who will not have anyone leaning, financially or emotionally. The car fee or sudden step for them can feel disastrous, because no one is even temporary relief.
If you can call or write someone who will help you back to your feet hard time, it’s a privilege that you can underestimate.
9) not having basic technology
I’m not like a technological smiley like my brother, but I have always had a phone and laptop to communicate, communicate and study everything from meditation techniques to holiday recipes.
For me, the mind of impartiality is never really a house unless I met students who had to sit outside the cafe just to work for their homework.
If you have never stressed how to apply jobs online or check important emails, as you are lacking devices or stable internet, it is a serious advantage.
Digital access is more and more important for education, employment and health. Many people are in the dark just because they do not have means or infrastructure to stay.
10) Being confident about your future prospects
The future can scare for everyone, but there is a difference between “Kerk” and my next job.
Some people are fully trapped in circumstances such as extreme poverty, war or cultural expectations that do not allow them to pursue opportunities.
If you have never had your life and think, “there is no way out of it,” you’re lucky.
Opportunities for higher education, specialized training or even safe environment, are not available to everyone to study career options. It is not necessary to worry about the blocking of your whole future, it is a real privilege.
Conclusion
I sometimes complain about the slightest things like slow internet or unable to find my favorite brand of protein bars in the store.
But reflecting what other people do every day help me to soften the deep feeling of gratitude.
It does not mean that we cannot feel stressed or distressed with our own challenges. Instead, it is an invitation to expand our prospect and admit that our concerns can be much harder if our circumstances were different.
If you have never been fighting with ten concerns above, you can have more freedom and security than you realize.
That recognition should not be a sin. Instead, it can be a spark that motivates us to remain compassionate, give back and use our resources so they can not limit those who have never been able to handle.
