When the US Army Captain, I thought that an intense command structure was the key to order and efficiency. In high pressure situations, the unit is waiting for an order. If you need a leadership meeting to remind you of a 50-page deck or company’s core goals of your team, you have a problem with communication. Anyone in the company must be able to express the mission in one or two sentences. What are we trying to get? Why is it important? What principles lead our decisions? When the answers to these questions are clear, execution becomes secondary nature.
Strengthening groups to make independent decisions are the next step. A large number of founders say that they want autonomous workers, but they create an environment that each decision requires confirmation. This mentality kills speed, creativity and accountability. The reality is that talented people want to have their jobs. They want to trust to understand everything. When the management continually intervened, the workers stop thinking for themselves and start playing safe. A hesitating team is a team that lost.
This is not to remove the structure. People are going to build a culture that they move forward without fear. A company that promotes risk apples and updates, will always be superior to everything that works with a rigid game book. Centralized decision-making teams do not operate in the silo. It means to move fast, often and continuously improve. The best companies build feedback loops in their culture. I live in my company with this approach. We started a new product leaving the key targets with an important stage last year. Instead, instead of calling a failure, we made it wrong, adjusted and improved the victim based on real user feedback. Without hesitation, of course, the ability to behave properly is what is going on. Every problem is an opportunity to strengthen. A company stops learning and starts to get behind.

Why is this more important than ever
The business world is moving faster than ever. Living companies are not necessarily financed in the biggest or best – they will be able to adapt the fastest. Leaders who will always lose teams that can execute only the presence of the only decision-makers. Speed is everything, but without clarity is the speed chaos. The commander’s intention provides the structure that allows companies to move rapidly without losing.
The best teams are not waiting for what to do. What are those who ask, “What is the mission and how do we get there?” Everything changes when leaders raise their teams to clarity. Decisions are faster. The execution is getting better. Innovation is accelerated. Leadership stops being a difficulty and becomes a true growth.
The old model of the old management is entertaining and unstable with the CEO of each decision. In today’s world, a company that rely on bureaucracy will be distributed by a company that prioritizes autonomy, confidence and rapid execution.
